Learning outcomes

  • Respond constructively to corrective feedback.
  • Clarify roles and shared expectations.
  • Address conflict using facts, impact, and a workable request.

Turn feedback into an action

Corrective feedback is information about a gap between the current result and the expected result. Listen without interrupting, restate the expectation, ask focused questions, identify the next action, and confirm when the correction will be completed.

Key points

  • Separate the work issue from personal worth.
  • Ask for an example when the expectation is unclear.
  • Record the correction and apply it to similar future work.

Resolve conflict at the lowest appropriate level

Begin with a private, respectful conversation when it is safe and authorized. Describe the specific behavior or process, explain its effect on the work, listen to the other perspective, and agree on a next step. Escalate when safety, harassment, discrimination, privacy, policy, or repeated unresolved conduct is involved.

Key points

  • Focus on specific actions, not personality labels.
  • Do not discuss the conflict with unrelated coworkers.
  • Use established reporting procedures for serious concerns.

Applied scenario

A correction during a busy shift

A supervisor tells you that two records were submitted without a required review step. You believed the step belonged to another teammate.

Apply what you learned

Answer all five questions. Feedback will identify what to review before you try again.

1What is the best initial response?
2How should the role confusion be addressed?
3Which conflict statement is most professional?
4When is escalation appropriate?
5What should happen after the correction?
